Course content
How does the mind work? How does breathing work? How do these two influence each other? How are they related to our ability to focus attention? How can we learn to create a better connection between our mind and body through practicing mindfulness and breathing? The answers to these questions will help participants to become more present, focused, and calm.
This course addresses the question of how to effectively focus at work, providing insight into physiology, psychology, (in-)effective thinking and breathing patterns, attention regulation, activating and relaxing breathing practices, stress management, and learning to build a healthy mind-body connection. The course is based on scientific research on mindfulness meditation, breathing, attention and executive functioning, stress and productivity, and it provides individual and group exercises on these topics.
Learning objectives
By the end of the course participants are able to
- Understand the basic mechanics of their mind and breath.
- Understand how the mind and body interact through the autonomic nervous system.
- Understand how to exercise control over the mind through the breath, and vice versa.
- Control their attention focus with the use of mindfulness and breath practices.
- Regulate stress and relaxation responses with the use of mindfulness and breath practices.
Teaching method
The program alternates between theory and practice and is partly based on personal learning objectives from participants. Between and after the sessions, participants are invited to put the learnings to practice with the use of audio material.
I aim to provide a safe group environment where participants are not only working on their individual mind and breath, but also support each other on their quest to understand and work with their mind and body.
During two online or offline sessions, participants will explore the content under guidance of Dr. Inge Wolsink, behavioral scientist, organizational psychologist, trainer, yoga / meditation instructor, and coach. Theoretical background and practices will be provided during these sessions, as well as in short audio form so participants can revive the content should they wish to dive deeper into mindfulness or breath practices at work or at home.
For individuals who feel the need for personal guidance, there is the option to have an online private coaching session in or soon after the period of the course.
